AN OPEN RACE

STEWARDS’ HANDICAP

JAMELL FIRST CHOICE

A field of 21 is engaged in the Stewards' Handicap and the race is one of the most open on the card, Lovemorn was placed at the New Zealand Cup meeting and Revolte’s fourth to Infatuate, All Alone and Western Front in the Fendalton Handicap points to him as a strong prospect here. Special Flight was a disappointment at Wairio but prior to that she had won the Taramoa Handicap, of seven furlongs, at the Southland meeting "in easy

fashion. Arctotis would be more at hpme over a longer journey, and Billy Mac raced below expectations at Riccarton, where he began badly. Jamell is definitely a form horse, having won three of his last four starts. At the New Zealand Cup meeting he won the Suburban High-wpight Handicap very easily. Pageant was third to Peridot and Authentic in the North Canterbury Handicap at Rangiora and at the Otago Hunt Club’s meeting he won the Tally-Ho Handicap, of one mile, from Nullah and Western Front. Royal Sal was second at Tapanui and Robinfaye collected two placings at the New Zealand Cup meeting. She should do well during the holidays. Trench Fury has had seven starts for a win and four placings and can be marked off for early improvement. Bragdon, the Otaio Plate wlnndr,' looks well placed on the minimum. He was unlucky in the Ashley Hack Handicap at Riccarton, being one of the last away and getting anything but a clear run in the straight. He did well to finish fourth. Jamell, Revolte, and Bragden are the selections.
