FINAL COURT OF APPEAL IN CANADA

Rec. 9 p.m. OTTAWA, Dec. 22. The Prime Minister, Mr, Louis St. Laurent, today announced the proclamation of the Act making the Supreme Court of Canada the final Appeal Court in the land. The Act was recently passed by Parliament. Canada’s final Court of Appeal in civil matters previously was the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. Mr St. Laurent said Canada would take no action on the recognition of the Chinese Communist regime until after the commonwealth conference in Ceylon on January 9.
