WESTLAND HANDICAP PUBLICANS’ TO ADVENT PA HOKITIKA, Dec. 18. The Westland Racing Club’s Christmas meeting was held yesterday under adverse weather conditions after heavy rain overnight. Rain set in after the third race and continued throughout the remainder of the programme. The track cut up badly as the meeting, progressed, slow times being recorded. Hie totalisator handled £12,670 10s compared with £16,448 on the corresponding day last year.
The results are as follows: Trial Stakes, of £IOO. Six furlongs.— 5/5 Ryeland, 8.0 (I. McClure), 1; 1/2 Hatrack, 9.1 (A. M. Ellis), 2; 4/3 Nalla’s Pride bracketed with Rampant, 8.10 (R. W. Shaw, 3. Two length, half a length. Claire de Lune was fourth. Time, lmin 19 l-ssec. Dividends.—Win £7 19s. Place £2 3s 6d, £1 19s, £2 Is.
Christmas Handicap Trot, of £135. Class 2.23. One mile.—First division: 1/2 Wee Alex, scr (J. A. Carmichael) bracketed with Globe Theatre, 1; 2/1 Maori Queen, 12yds bhd (G. Cameron), bracketed with Glider, Showman and Secundus, 2; 5/4 Sun Chariot, scr (R. S. Stevens), 3. Half a length, two lengths. Dark Duet was fourth. Times: 2min 25sec, 2min 25 l-ssec, 2min 28sec.
