EXPLOSION ON LAUNCH

TWO PERSONS INJURED

PA CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 18. Two young persons were seriously burned in an explosion aboard the cruising launch Arab at Lyttelton on Saturday evening. They are Merle Cunningham, aged 18, of Jerrold street, Addington, and Noel Hughes, aged 21, of Norwich street. Linwood. Both were admitted to the Burwood Hospital.

The explosion is believed to have been caused by a leakage of gas from a cooking stove into the bilges of the craft. Some damage was caused to the launch, and a fire which broke out was extinguished by the owner, Mr M. Cunningham, the father of Merle Cunningham.
