ROWING REGATTA

MARRED BY WEATHER

OTAGO CLUB’S FIXTURE

Owing to adverse weather, the Otago Rowing Club’s second regatta of the present season was not as successful as expected in spite of good entries. Crews from Invercargill and Oamaru joined the four Dunedin clubs in the nine rowing events. The rough water on the proposed course between Vauxhall and Waverley caused a change to a course of about three-quarters of a mile from the Anderson's Bay bridge to the Birch street wharf.

The Otago Club was the most successful in the rowing events, winning three races and being placed in every event in which its crews started. Otago gained 17 points. Port Chalmers 11 and North End 8. The North End Club’s crews won the three main events on the programme. The Junior Four was the best race of the day. The seven crews raced in line for more than half of the distance, when the Queen's Drive and the Otago Nos. 1 and 2 crews began to show out. In a great finish, Queen's Drive won by half a length from Otago No. 2. The Otago No. 1 crew finished third, but was disqualified for crossing in front of Invercargill Railway. The Vauxhall Yacht and Power Boat Club controlled a yacht race for all comers held during the afternoon. Nada, with a handicap of 9mln, was the winner The Sanders Cup representative, Jose, and Shirlwyn fought out a grand race. Shirlwyn was first home, 30sec ahead of Jose, but was placed second to Nada on corrected times. Results:— Maiden Double Sculls.—Otago No. 1 (A. McMillan, R. Smith) 1, Otago No. 2 (E. Blaney, R.
