DIVORCE RATE UP

PARIS. The divorce rate in the Paris region has alrpost doubled since the war, official statistics show. Divorces in the Seine (Greater Paris) .department this year averaged 1100 a month, against 600 a month in pre-war years. The increase is attributed mainly to the housing difficulty, which often obliges young couples to live with their parents. The highest number of divorces was registered at the end of 1945 and the beginning of 1946. when prisoners of war returned to France after four or five years’ captivity.—Reuter.
