„ IJ , A man named Giovanni Matassi, an /Italian, was committed for trial at the -'Arrowtown Police Court on Thursday " last for stealing sheep, the property of /Messrs Wilkie, and Thompson. The ••.'facts given in evidence were that “ Oswald McCallum, shepherd to Messrs -'Wilkie and Thompson, on the previous • ’ discovered the prisoner in some rough tussocky country on the CarV drona Station, apparently dressing a sheep which had been killed. He recognised the sheep as his employers '.property and- gave the man into custody. The prisoner offered to pay, for v the sheep and said his dog had killed •it.
