In his report to the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club the totalisator engineer, Mr R. T. Roberts, stated that 1,397,820 units of 10s were recorded on the totalisator during the four-day Jubilee Cup meeting. This amount was handled with the greatest of ease. Ticket paper used required 80.5 miles of paper cut into three-inch lengths. l The report states that on Jubilee Cup day £211,293 was handled. This is a record for both racing and trotting in the South Island, and a record for trotting in New Zealand The totalisator steward gave the “ Close Down ’’ for the last race three minutes after the advertised closing time, and the totalisator was balanced two minutes later. The greatest number of tickets sold during the day by a single issuer was 5866, while several others sold more than 5090.
