OVERSEAS LOTTERIES

New Gaming Laws

NO EFFECTS NOTICED Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, Dec. 16.

Wellington agents for overseas lottery tickets do not expect any reaction from investors to the effects of the Gaming Amendment Act, which has come into force, said an agent today. “I have received no police warning,” he said, “ and will continue to send for tickets as long as the bank accepts my cheque. Though we in no way encourage the public to speculate in lotteries, the demand for tickets has become almost embarrassing.” Other agents'said they had received no official warning, though they had heard of persons being advised to break off overseas contacts. A few agents had ceased operations while others were more cautious when approached by customers.
