HOMING PIGEONS

Old Bird Season Closed

A successful race from Napier closed the old bird programme of the Oamaru Homing Pigeon Club. It was gratifying to see all members time in a bird. The birds were liberated at 5 a.m. on Saturday. The winning bird covered the 498 miles in 19hr 18min 28sec at a velocity of 775 yards a minute. Results:— A. Macrae's Lamotte. velocity 775 yards, 1- G. Napier’s Morning Wings, 732, 2; D. Mcßride’s Red Beauty, 694, 3; M. Hay's Lady Ethel, 665, 4. The placings for the club's North Island Challenge Shield for races from Wellington, Kaitoke. Dannevirke, and Napier resulted:—A. Macrae, 15 points, 1; G. Napier, 13, 2; D. Mcßride and M. Hay, 5 (equal), 3.
