Mrs D. Rankin, Pacific street, has left for Auckland to join the Rangitata, en route for Great Britain. Mrs Gerald J. Thompson, Cargill street, was a visitor to Oamaru this week for the annual speech night at St. Kevin’s College, Redcastle. Mr and Mrs Mark Hanan gave a reception at their home in London street last night in honour of Mrs E. Mellor, widow of Dr Mellor, who has made many gifts to the collection of ceramics in the Otago Museum.

An afternoon tea party was held at the Savoy on Wednesday when members of the Otago Ladies' Bowling Club bade farewell to Mrs G. Coughlan. The president, Mrs K. Morrison, handed Mrs Coughlan a gift and a bouquet of flowers. The St. Dominic’s Ex-pupils* Association held an enjoyable social evening at the college recently. A programme of songs by Messrs Brendon and Brian Wilkins. Misses Raywin and Bernadette Lamb, and Miss Pat Woods, and humorous recitations by Miss Sybil Westland contributed to the success of the evening Miss Alves O’Connell was the accompanist. Miss M. L. Murray, Qf Forres, Scotland, who has been the guest of Mrs F. G Soper, Highgate, will leave today for Milford Sound. Miss Murray, who is a Girl Guide trainer, has been in New Zealand for just over a year helping with the Girl Guide movement in the Dominion. She will return to Scotland in February. Mrs G. M. Burnett, the Otago-Southland representative on the executive of the Ladies' Golf Club, has resigned from the position of secretary of the St. Clair Ladies’ Golf Club so that she will be able to devote more time to the work of the executive. At a ceremony at the St. Clair Golf Club on Tuesday the .president, Lady Sldey, spoke appreciatively of the 20 years’ work given to the club by Mrs Burnett, and handed her gifts of crystal from both the men's and the ladies’ clubs.
