SMOKING IN TOWN HALL
Sir,—Congratulations on your fine editorial and to Cr Sidey on his last-ditch stand to the advancing years and petrified ideas of his fellow city fathers. Do these men partake during the council meetings, and if they do, have they the permission of the ratepayers to endanger our Town Hall? ~ Why are men elected to authority in this country so bent on making it a land of “can’t.” Perhaps 14 years of Socialist control has even undermined the council. I wonder if they realise that their antics, written as a play, would be a musichall success in the older, more civilised countries such as England, where smoking is permitted even in carpeted theatres. The interests of dancing patrons have been ignored, but it is not too late yet for the council to reverse this stupid decision.—l am. etc.. Can Do.,
