Jet-rocket Plane Reaches 750 m.p.h. In United States

United Press—Copyright SAN FRANCISCO, Rec. 9 p.m. Dec. 1. Thfe Skyrocket, a combinaton jet and rocket fighter type of plane, made its first public demonstration flight to-day at Muroc, California, and reached a speed estimated at 750 miles an hour. The plane made its first run over the course on jet power alone, and a navy spokesman estimated that it reached about 670 miles an hour. The plane used its jet power and four rocket engines on the second run, and observers estimated that it reached 750 miles an hour. The rockets belched a 10-foot stream of flame behind the plane which streaked along about 30 feet above the ground and then zoomed to 13,000 feet. The test pilot said later that he used full power for only about 10 seconds. He said he felt slight turbulence at the highest speed.
