TWELVE HUNDRED WATCHES
MELBOURNE CUSTOMS HAUL Rec. 11 p.m. MELBOURNE, Dec. 2. Melbourne Customs officers, searching for smuggled goods, seized 1200 watches worth £ 12,000 from the j migrant ship Surriento soon after she | berthed on her arrival from Italy and $ Middle East ports. The watches were g gummed to the wall of secret com- $ partments in four suitcases. This afternoon, an Austrian’Jew who had J travelled by the Surriento, was charged J with having, smuggled the watches. He was remanded and bail of £IOO was granted.
