CANTERBURY CUP TO-DAY

Final Card For Meeting At Riccarton
FINE NIGHT IN FENDALTON By the Spoking Editor The curtain will come down on the New Zealand Cup meeting at _ Riccarton to-day, and some big fields will go to the post, that for the Hagley Hack Handicap running to 28. With the prospect of going similar to that on the two previous days of the meeting, the form already shown will be reflected in the totalisator figures, but among the fresh horses there are several capable of upsetting calculations. Beaumaris will be at cramped odds for the Canterbury Cup, in ,v(fhich he will be ridded by L. J. Ellis, who has already ridden winners of the race in Sporting Blood, Kinnoull, Defaulter, Royal Chief, Golden Souvenir, who dead heated with Soneri, and Bruce. A form horse in the Fendalton Handicap is Fine Night, who was narrowly defeated in the Metropolitan and has since been working attractively. The heavy speculation on the Members’ Handicap may be spread over half-a-dozen runners, but the final count will probably show that Swayup, who was second in the Stewards’ Handicap, has been selected as the actual favourite. The following are among the form horsey for to-day:— 10.32: Port Cooper Highweight Handicap.—Count Bian, Bren Gun, Detain. 11.17: Irwell Handicap.—Pastel, Dunkirk, Brutus. 12.2 : Stonyhurst Handicap.—Goldstrike, Rising Tide, Royal Tower. 12.47: Hagley Handicap.—Robin’s Song, Resolute, Formation. 1.32: Canterbury Cup.—Beaumaris, Bhutan, Signal Officer. 2.17: Fendalton Handicap.—Fine Night, Maryburn, All Alone. 3.2 : Ashley Ha6k Handicap,—Sweet Lorraine, Sir Denzil, Beau Soir. 3.47: Members’ Handicap.—Swayup, Flying Sovereign, Ballochmyle.
