STATE AID TO PRIVATE SCHOOLS
Sir,—“Scot" says, keep the discussion to State aid to private schools in New Zealand. Very well—l did not first in-, troduce Scotland or Spain, it was'” Scot.” Would he answer my Why should it be supposed that Protestants in New Zealand want religious education in schools when—their voting strength being so overwhelming—they have only to say they want it, and qo Government dare refuse them? It can only be concluded that they do not want it.
This conclusion is reinforced by the Protestant Protection Association, which declares that the national system of education is a great Protestant principle, which is to say that Protestantism identifies itself with schools which teach no religion. Why does “ Scot ” wants to tamper with a great Protestant principle?— I am, etc., Surtout, pas dezele!
