SCHOOLBOY DROWNED
DEEP HOLE IN CREEK Special to the Daily Times OAMARU, Nov. 17. While bathing to-day two schoolboys attempted to swim Kuri Creek from the Hampden camp side. The younger, Kevin Trevallyn, reached the other bank safely, but on looking round saw his friend, Alexander George Braid, disappearing under the water five yards out from the bank. Constable J. Johnson, of Hampden, recovered the body half an hour later in eight feet of water. Artificial respiration was attempted by Dr Trotter and others without success. The victim. was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs G. H. Braid, of Moeraki estate. He was; aged 11 years. An inquest will be opened at Oamaru tomorrow. Kuri Creek has long been considered a very safe bathing place, but the recent blocking of the outlet to the sea by shingle drifts has banked the water up to form a deep hole.
