JUNIOR LEAGUE
PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS
The lnaguration of a Junior League of the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was reported by the president, Mr R. Fountain, at the meeting of the society yesterday afternoon. So far, there were nine members, all boys, he said, and they met once a month.
It was hoped that they would meet In future in the Caversham Presbyterian Church Hfall. Talks on animal welfare would be given by members of the parent society, and booklets distributed to the Junior League members. Essay Competition The results of the annual Essay Competition held by the society were read to the meeting by the secretary, Mr E. S. Wilson. The essays were written about animals, and were judged by Professor T. D. Adams, who recently retired from the chair of classics at the University of Otago. The results were:—

Junior.—Blake Henderson, Balclutha, 1; Valerie Geary, Waihola, 2. Highly commended: Norah Dempster, Waihola.
