REMARKABLE SUCCESS OF M. HOLMES

A feature of the first two days of the New Zealand Jubilee Trotting Cup meeting at Addington has been the fine reinsmanship of M. Holmes, who has been behind six winners, three of whom have been trained by himself, as well as two minor place-getters. He has been successful with Chamfer, Islaburn Lass, Conceit, Gantree (twice) and Casacando. Holmes trains the first three of these. His total winning drives for the season are now 20, and he must be well ahead of his nearest opponent. This number will probably be increased during the last two days of the Cup meeting. Holmes was the leading reinsman last season with 36 successes. He has also headed the list on two other occasions, in 1930-31 when he drove 35 winners, and in 1931-32 when he drove 33. He looks well on the way to compiling a record total this year.
