HOLIDAY TRAIN TRAVEL Advance Booking Arrangements From November 14, 1949, to January 14, 1950, applications for reserved seats and sleeping berths will be accepted as under:— Outward Journeys—As usual, i.e., up to four weeks in advance of travel date at stations from which trains commence, their journey, and four weeks plus two days at other stations. Return Journeys—lf the return journey is to be made within four weeks of commencement of the outward journey, but not later than January 14, 1950, return reservation may be applied for at the time outward reservation is arranged. Wellington Migrants landed from the “Aurora” on January 22nd, 1840, officially established the first European settlement of Wellington. The original settlement, called Britannia, was established on the Hutt side of the harbour, but proved unsuitable. Shortly afterwards, the colony was transferred to the present site and named Wellington. Wellington became the seat of Government in 1865.
