WELLINGTON HANDICAP SURPRISE IN THE SPRINT HIS NIBS AN OUTSIDER PA WELLINGTON, Oct. 16. * Five of the winners on the first day of the Wellington Racing Club’s spring meeting at Trentham yesterday paid double figures, the best return being over a third of a century by His Nibs in the Shorts Handicap. The weather was fine and sunny after a w morning, and the track was dead, and cut out, but improved during the afternoon. The attendance was below the usual October level, but a slight increase was recorded on the totalisator, the turnover being £164,881, compared .with £157.027 on the first day last year.
