HANDLING OF FOOD
EATING-HOUSE OWNERS WARNED THREAT OF PROSECUTION Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, Oct. 16. A warning to proprietors of restaurants and eating houses that the recently-issued regulations covering the hygienic preparation and handling of food must be complied with, has been issued by the Health Department. The department says it has been reported that many proprietors of eating houses are making no attempt to bring their premises into compliance with the regulations as they consider they have a period of three years before this need be done. The department warns these proprietors that the period of grace in respect of shortcomings refers only to the powers of the local authority to re-reglster such premises. Unless satisfactory evidence can hs produced that they have made genuine efforts to do so, the local authorities would be justified In requesting eating-house proprietors to comply with the requirements of the regulations, and if any regulations were not complied with, it could be followed by a prosecution.
