DEVONPORT DOCKYARD
Admiralty Mission Reports To Government PA WELLINGTON. Oct. 13. Recommendations that the Devonport dock yard should remain as at present, under the direct control of the Naval Board, are made in the report of an admiralty mission tabled by the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, in the House of Representatives this afternoon. Other recommendations are that the board should purchase or borrow a floating dock from Britain; the introduction of a pay-ments-by-results scheme for dockyard workers; and a more stringent security check on casual labour. Members of the commission, which arrived in New Zealand in April, were Rear-admiral tE.J L. A. Taylor, C.8.E., of the staff of the commander-in-chief, Nore, and Mr L. E. Hogan, 0.8. E.. M.Eng., M.1.E.E., Admiralty superintending electrical engineer. They were asked to investigate and advise the Minister on matters affecting the capacity of the dockyard to carry out its primary function of maintaining in peace and war the ships and vessels of the Royal New Zealand Navy.
