THREATENING LETTER

CHARGE AGAINST SEAMAN PA • NEW PLYMOUTH, Oct. 12. Threats to kill, allegedly made to Bessie Monoa Anglem, of 94 Marine Parade, Bluff, in a letter posted at Wellington, were the subject of a charge against Gerad Alfred Hodges, a seaman, aged 22, in the Magistrate’s Court at New Plymouth to-day. He was remanded in custody to appear ■to-morrow. Hodges, a single man, described as a native of England, was arrested this afternoon. He is a member of the crew of the steamer Waipahi now in port at New Plymouth. The letter is alleged to have been sent by Hodges between July 1 and 31, 1949. An ingredient of the charge in respect of the letter is that he sent it “knowing the contents thereof.”
