ACTING HEAD APPOINTED APPROVAL OF UNIVERSITY COUNCIL Temporary appointments for the year 1950 in the Department of English at the University of Otago were approved at the meeting of the Council of the University yesterday afternoon on the, recommendation of the vice-chaacelor, Dr R. S. Aitken. The chair ofTSnglish has been vacant since the retirement this year of Professor H. Ramsay. Mr G. M. Cameron was appointed acting head of the department, with Emeritus Professor R. Lawson as parttime extra lecturer. Dr A. H. McLintock was appointed part-time extra lecturer in history of English literature, and Mr A. G. Mcßae was appointed assistant lecturer. Mr W. A. Watters was apopinted assistant lecturer in geology for the year 1950, and Mrs Du Toit was appointed arts and crafts tutor in the Department of Adult Education from January 1. Mr P. B. Mac Kay was appointed as a graduate technician at the bacteriology department of the Otago Medical School from January 1, and Mr M. G. Jenner was granted a temporary appointment to a similar position from October to December. Subject to his completing his B.Sc. degree, Mr D. E. Bacon was also appointed to a similar post from January 1. The resignation of Dr J. H. Stewart, assistant lecturer in bacteriology at the Otago Medical School, from December 31, was accepted.
