Federal State Premiers Discuss Petrol Rationing
MELBOURNE, Sept. 27. A conference of State Premiers will to-day consider the seizure of hoarded petrol stocks, said the Premier, Mr T. T. Hoilway. He said the State Governments believed that “ petrol hogs” were hoarding large stocks of petrol in anticipation of the reimposition of petrol rationing. A Victorian State Minister said tha conference would probably agree to the ticket rationing scheme, which the Commonwealth would administer and finance. Under the scheme motorists probably would get 10 per cent, less petrol than under the previous scheme. The controls would probably operate from November 1.
All the State Governments except Victoria had agreed to transfer their rationing powers to the Commonwealth Government. Victoria proposes to administer its own rationing scheme parallel with the Common wealth scheme, but wjll not transfer its powers.
