NZPA—Reuter—Copyright Rec. 8 p.m. MADRAS. Sept. 26. The Madras Government to-night declared the Communist Party or India an unlawful organisation in the province.

A later message says the police had arrested 16 Communists and leaders of Communist-led labour organisations following the ban. The West Bengal Government had declared the party unlawful earlier this year simultaneously with the Hyderabad State Government.
