. KEEN COMPETITION GREASY CROSSBRED BRINGS HIGH PRICES The Bank of New Zealand produce department received the following cablegram from Its London office on September " The wool sales market is very active. Greasy crossbred is now about 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, dearer than July close. Scoured and sliped prices are firm compared with the opening of the sales. \ " The following range of sale room prices for New Zealand greasy wool is quoted (prices are given in sterling without deductions of any sort for freight, expenses, etc.):—Merinos, 60/64’s: Average, 53d to 57d. Fine halfbred. 58’s-56/58s: Average, 44d to 50d. Halfbred, 50/56’s-56 s: Good, 41d to 44d- average, 38d to 40d. Fine crossbred, 50’s-48/50 Y s: Super, 30id to 33id; good. 281 d to 30d; average, 27d to 28d. Medium crossbred, 46 s-46/48 s--48’s: Super, 28d to 29d; good, 27d to 28d; average. 26d to 27d. Crossbred lambs: Average. 30d to 32d. First crossbred pieces: Good. 19d to 23d; average, 19d to 23d. Crossbred bellies: Good, 17d to 19Jd; average, 17d to 19id.” The Bank of New South Wales has received the following communication from its London office dated September “Average or estimtaed prices of New Zealand greasy fleece ordinary topmaking wools:—Merino, 60/64, 57d to 61d: fine halfbred. 56/58, 44d to 50d; halfbred, 50/56, 36d to 40 d; three-quarterbred, 48/50, 27d to 291 d; fine crossbred, 46/48. 26d to 27id; medium crossbred. 44/46, 25d to 261 d; crossbred, 40/44, 25d to 26d. Of 22,500 bales offered, a good clearance was effected, with an active market and widespread competition. Compared with the last sale In July, Australian greasy merinos were generally 5 per cent, dearer; greasy crossbreds (poorly represented), fully 10 per cent, dearer; scoured fine crossbreds, 10 per cent, dearer: medium. 5 per cent, dearer; combing slipes, 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, dearer; others, 5 per cent, dearer."
