WORLD MILE RECORD LOWERED
Rec. 7 p.m. NEW YORK, Aug. 19. The four-year-old racehorse Coaltown bettered the world mile record by winning the 32,250-dollar Whirlaway Handicap to-day In lmin 34sec. The Kentucky Derby winner Ponder was second. The previous record was lmin 34 2-ssec, set by Equipoise in 1932.
