EUROPE’S LARGEST DAM

HUGE PORTUGUESE PROJECT OPENED Rec. 11 p.m. LISBON, May 30. The Portuguese Premier, Dr A. Salazar, officially opened Europe’s biggest dam—known as “Salazar's dam.’ It will irrigate a great area, will increase current production of rice by 50,000 tons a year, and will supply 10.000 kilowatts of power. Built by Portuguese engineers using British machines, the dam cost Portugal nearly £3,000.000.
