CASACANDO IS GOOD TWO-YEAR-OLD PACER

Casacando, who finished second behind Young Charles in the Juvenile Handicap at the Canterbury Park meeting on Saturday, was having his second start in a race. He made his first appearance in the Timaru Nursery Stakes when he fell in the straight. He is a colt by Casanova from Canda Nell, the dam also of a use; ful straight-out trotter in Billy McElwyn. Canda Nell was by .Travis Axworthy from Locanda Queen, by Brent Locanda from Imperial Princess by Prince Imperial from Problem, by Specification'. Locanda Queen left a useful winner in Fernbrook Lass, the dam of winners in Blonde Sailor and Fernbrtipk Jack. Casacando is trained by his owner, A. H. Gourlay, and he looks as though he will develop good form next season. He will probably'have his next race in the New Zealand Sapling Stakes at 1 Ashburton.

The stock of Dillon Hall, leading sire of the season, were not prominent and Prince Hall, who finished third in the Winter Handicap was the only one to pay a dividend. Springfield Globe Gelding Young Atlas was having only his fourth start of the season when he won the Wai-iti Trot at Washdyke on Saturday. He was always well placed, and in the straight he soon had the measure of the favourite, Blue Signal, and went on to win by half a length with something in hand. Young Atlas Is a five-year-old gelding by Springfield Globe from Thelma Grattan, by Grattar Loyal from Avail, by Key de Oro, from Glade, by Logan Pointer from Merce, by Galindo. Young Atlas should make his presence felt against the improvers in the next few weeks. Siropco Improving

The Oamaru trainer, J. M. Bain, who has had great success ironing opt faults in temperamental horses this season, looks to have Sirocco settled down. The halfbrother to N E mu,ous recorded his first placirg since the start of the season when he ran third to Courageous and Flinders Bar in the Ellesmere Handicap at the Canterbury Park meeting. Sirocco looked as though he would develop good form this season, but his waywardness at the barrier ruined his chances in most of his races. He should reach a tight mark under Bain’s guidance. Fanciful did rot win out of’turn when she succeeded in the Winchester Trot at the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday. The Nelson Derby made had recorded nine placings in 13 starts since she won the Maiden Pacers’ Handicap at the Ashburton matinee meeting on January 15. Fanciful is out'of Little Kewpie, a half-sister by Gamble to a useful performer in War Buoy. Little. Kewpie was by Diadem from Little Alma,-by Telemeter from a mare by the thoroughbred sire Perkin Warbeck, from a mare by the imported Blackwood Abdullah. Fanciful mav further her record at the Ashburton meeting next week-end. New Lease of Life

Seacraft, who has taken a new lease of life since being trained by N. L. Berkett, gave nothing else a chance in the Final Handicap at Addington on Saturday, winning easily by three lengths from Black Machine ard Direct Heir. Seacraft won two races earlier in the season, but his subsequent form was not up to standard. At his second appearance • for Berkett he ran' second to Despatch in the Empire Handicap at Hutt Park on May 7 and later in the day he rah second to Silent Knight in the Farewell Handicap. More should be heard of this useful pacer next season. He is an aged gelding bv Quite Sure from Marie Celeste, a useful mare, by Man o’ War from Princess Zoe, by Kanuknot from Hedvic, by Prince Imperial.
