"MENACE FROM WITHIN”

Sir,—l note that you touch on Sir David Smith’s address to the Wellington Rotary Club. To me the most arresting part of the address was the statement: “ If Communism is to lose its appeal we must satisfy the two main requirements it appears to cover, economic security and racial toleration.” And then Sir David goes on to say. “After the present lag in production is overtaken, countries will be faced with an exportable surplus. Failure to find markets for the surplus was a major cause of international trade conflicts and slumps." This is a direct challenge to every one of us. Can we meet it? Wars and slumps will breed only more Communists.—l am, etc., J. M.
