NEW ZEALAND SELECTORS

MR N. A. McKENZIE CONVENER pa WELLINGTON, May 28. The council of the New Zealand Rugby Union last night elected Messrs N. A McKenzie (Hawke’s Bay), R. R. Masters (Canterbury), and H. S. Strang (Southland) as New Zealand selectors for tne season. The North Island selectors are Messrs McKenzie, J. Finlay (Manawatu). and M. V. Corner (Auckland), and the South Island selectors are Messrs Masters, Strang and V. Goodall (Buller). Mr McKenzie is convener for both the New Zealand and North Island selection panels, and Mr Strang for the South The first ballot for the South Island selectors resulted in a tie for third place between Messrs Goodall and V. G. Cavanagh. jun., (Otago), and a further ballot resulted in Mr Goodall s election. The council decided to inform Fiji that it would be impracticable for a Fijian team to visit New Zealand before 1951 Following a discussion in committee ot a letter from the South African (Bantu) Rugby Board, proposing an exchange oi visits with a Maori team, the .council decided that New Zealand could not accede to the request. In view of the expected early arrival of the British team, in the first week in Mav next year, it was decided to hold the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union on April 27 and 28. Messrs Belcher and L. V. Carmine, with Mr S. S. Dean co-opted, were appointed a subcommittee to prepare new laws on professionalism. The existing laws apply m the meantime
