MILD CONDITIONS
Feed Position Improves
Weather conditions have been milder in North Otago this week, with very little frost. These conditions are helping the feed position at the moment, and there has also been a big improyeihent in the autumn-sown crops for green feed. Wheat.—The cleaning-up lines from stacked threshed wheat have been delivered to the mills this week, and this will complete the wheat harvest for this year. There have also been further orders for seed wheat, and deliveries to date can be considered satisfactory. There are inquiries for seed wheat from further south as the .wheat crops there suffered froni bad weather during the harvest. • , Oats.— Business in oats in all varieties is very quiet, and the Waipiata lifted a fair quantity of white oats for Auckland, and there will probably be, further oats to go bv the next boat. Stocks in store are not'heavy, as there have been some local inquiries for oats for feed purposes. •, Potatoes.—Most of the main crops have now been dug, and the yields, as anticipated, have been disappointing. Seeds.—There have been some orders this week from the last Government tender for deliveries to the North Island. Offerings from growers are limited, and prices are being maintained. Merchants are not keen buyers, as they have covered the greater part of their spring requirements. There Will be no further retail business until the spring. Orders for Govenment stock seeds have to be in Wellington by the end of the month. Bookings for these are not as good as last year.
