GENERAL ELECTION LABOUR NOMINATIONS PA WELLINGTON, May 17. The names of five more official Labour candidates whose candidature has been approved by the national executive of the Labour Party .. were announced to-day by the national secretary of the party, Mr A. J. McDonald. They are:— Hawke’s Bay, Mr E. L. Cullen, M.P., Minister of Agriculture. Manawatu, Mr Basil A. Rodgers. Parnell. Mr F. W. Schramm. Eden, Mr P. T. Curran. Hamilton, Mr John Granville. BRIEF BIOGRAPHIES Daily Times Special Service WELLINGTON, May 17. Mr Rodgers, who is headmaster of Rongotea School, Palmerston North, was born in 1913. He attended the Wellington Training College and Victoria University College, where he gained his B.A. degree. After a probationary assistantship at Palmerston North Central School, he taught in several parts of the North Island, mainly in the back country areas. He is keenly interested in agricultural clubs, has also taken an active interest in community affairs and in various forms of sport. Mr Rodgers is married with three children. Mr Schramm is a barrister and solicitor by profession and is a former Speaker of the House of Representatives. He was narrowly defeated at the last general election after having -represented the old Auckland East constituency in Parliament since 1931. Mr Granville, who is now a fulltime member of the Rehabilitation Board, was an unsuccessful Labour candidate for Hamilton at the last general election. He is 39 years of age, went overseas with the New Zealand forces in 1940, was captured in Greece and spent more than four years as a prisoner of war in Germany. Mr Curran, who is in business on hu own account, was born 39 "years ago He had a distinguished war record, ii the holder of an American decoration and has played a prominent part in the aero club movement. He is married with two children.
