RADIO NOISES
STEPS FOR ELIMINATION NEW DEVICES AVAILABLE PA WELLINGTON. May 17. “ Everyday household appliances such as electric vacuum cleaners and electrically-driven sewing machines and small commutator-type electric motors are a source of much radio interference which could be prevented,” stated the Postmaster-general, Mr Hdckett, to-day. jin an attempt to eliminate radio noises from these appliances the Post Office has been seeking the co-opera-tion of manufacturers. Many manufacturers have incorporated in their appliances devices to suppress radio noise, but there are other manufacturers who are not fitting these devices, with the result that sooner _or later the appliances they are putting on the market will cause noise on the radio sets. The users of the appliances will then be faced with the cost of fitting suppressors, for it is an offence under the radio interference regulations to use appliances which cause radio noise.
It would be well for persons buying electrical appliances to ask whether they are fitted with radio interference suppressors, stated Mr Hackett. It will save remedial costs later.
