RETURN TO DUTY

DUKE OF EDINBURGH SERVICE IN ROYAL NAVY NZPA—Copyright Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, May 16. The Duke of Edinburgh, who voluntarily went on half-pay as a lieutenant in the Royal Navy last September, is expected to return soon to full executive duties, including periods of duty at sea, says the Daily Mail. Plans for his future naval career have been discussed in Court circles and by the Appointments Branch of the Admiralty. It was expected that an announcement about his return to full duty would be made next September. but.it may now be sooner. Repeatedly, since last September the Duke has stressed his desire to return to the navy. Normally this would require only Admiralty sanction, but in the Duke’s case constitutional issues are involved, and before he is permitted to return to the navy the consent of|the King is required.
