AWARD AMENDMENTS

COURT OF ARBITRATION Amendments to awards consequent upon the wage order pronouncement of April 12 have been made by the Court of Arbitration. In the New Zealand Retail Grocers’ Assistants and Drivers’ Award, the minimum wage is raised to £7 10s 3d a week, an increase of 11s Bd. The rates for junior assistants are increased by 10 per cent. For members of the Otago Builders’ Labourers, Quarry Workers, - Tunnellers, and General Labourers’ Union the new minimum weekly wage rate is £6 16s lid, or 3s 7d a week more than previously. For the workers on an hourly basis, the rate is increased by id an hour to 3s sd. In the award for motor trade employees, increases of 4d an hour have been granted to A grade motor mechanics, inspectors, certified motor mechanics and motor mechanics, bringing their hourly rates up to 4s 2d, 4s 2d, 4s, 3s lid respectively. Assemblers, vulcanlsers, battery workers, improvers and wreckers get increases of 3|d an hour to raise their hourly rates to 3s 83d, except in the case of wreckers, whose rate will now be 3s Bd. Garage attendants paid on a weekly basis have been given an Us 8d rise to'£7 3s lid a week while those paid by the hour will now receive 3s 73d an hour, or 3Jd more than previously. Youth employed' as garage attendants receive an increase of 10 per cent.
