Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, May 16

In addition to those who raced at Amberley, two Ricearton horses were in the limelight in the North Island on Saturday. Luminous Knight had a narrow win in the Taipua Handicap at Otaki, while Dark Arrow was second in the Hamilton Handicap, the chief flat event at Waikato. After K. J. Thompson had won the high-weight, the first \ race at Amberley. on Saturday, apprentices monopolised the riding honours in all the other galloping events. R. W. Gould, who rode two winners, had not been associated with horses till after he returned from sendee in a hospital ship during the war, but he has made good progress as a rider since he joined J. S. Shaw’s stable. C. F. King, who also had two wins, is rapidly coming to the front as a rider. He is a son of C. King, well known as a driver of pacers and trotters, and he is apprenticed to F. D. Jones. The other winner was ridden by W. D. Skelton, who is attached to L. H. Pratt's South Canterbury stable, and he has been very prominent with other successes this season. , . , Infatuate followed up his win at Ashburton by beating the high-weight field at Amberley in impressive style. He is a three-year-old by Defaulter, .while his dam, Bewitching, is a young Wild Chase mare from Miss Mimic, by Sanquhar from the Treadmill mare, Counterfeit, the winner of the Stead Gold Cup and Great Northern Derby. It was Infatuate s feurth win.this season, and he should continue to pay his way in open company. Flying Control ran a good race in the high-weight at Amberley. It was his first start since September, and he did well to finish third after being in front most of the way. He should be a winner soon. Terminate had his first start for Mr J. H. Grigg in .the high-weight at Amberley. He was running on well at the end to finish fourth, and he will arouse interest when he takes on jumping.
