DEFAULT RELATED TO BEAU LE HAVRE
Default, winner of the Avondale Hack Steeples last Saturday, ranks as a halfbrother to Beau le Havre, being by Defaulter from Pretty Brown. It was Default's first success since he defeated a field of hack hurdlers in the Poioti Hurdles at the Whangarei meeting lEfst October. In all this season he has had 12 starts for two wins and four placings. He looks as though he will develop into a useful winner over country. He has been nominated for the Great Northern Hurdles, where he is weighted on the minimum. If he is started in this event he should give a good account of himself, as he is well endowed with the stamina necessary to win such a race.
Jottings The Ranfurly-owned Detract is favourite for his race at the Waikato meeting to-day, The Bat, who is among the favourites for the Waikato meeting, is a half-brother to Lord Elgin, being a four-year-old by Hazrat from Jay Bird. Place Prospect
The Defaulter three-year-old Exchange has missed a place in only three of his nine races this season, his record being two wins and four seconds. Owned and trained by L. Pratt, Exchange is more than useful, and he looks a good place prospect Seadown Handicap at Amberley. DJC Meeting The only meeting in the province remaining on the calendar for the present season is that of the Dunedin Jockey Club, which will be held on June 4, 6 and 11, and the proximity of the meeting is brought home to racing enthusiasts by the fret that nominations are due on Monday week.
