CAVALIER TREATMENT
DIRECTOR OF STABILISATION CRITICISM BY LIBRARY ASSOCIATION Cavalier treatment of the New Zealand Library Association by the Director of Stabilisation was alleged in a motion adopted unanimously at the annual meeting of the association yesterday. The motion, which was submitted by the Wellington branch, expressed disapproval of the director’s treatment of a recommendation made to him in connection with librarians’ salaries by the council. The disapproval is to be conveyed to the patron of the association,, the Prime : Minister, and he is to be asked to intervene in support of the association’s requests. After an explanation had been given of the approaches made by the association to the director, culminating in his refusal to receive a deputation, Mr Kealy suggested, amid laughter, that the word “insolent” could be substituted for “ cavalier.” The Prime Minister. Mr Fraser, was re-elected patron of the association. Mr C. W. Collins was elected president and other officers elected were:—Vicepresidents—Mrs E. M. Silmer and Messrs H. W. B. Bacon, J. Barr, H.
