MEETING CANCELLED
COMMUNIST AND TRAMWAY-
MEN
A meeting of Dunedin tramwaymen which was called for 2.30 p.m. yesterday at the Market Reserve by the national organiser of the New Zealand Communist Party, Mr V. Wilcox, was cancelled. The reason for the cancellation was given by Mr Wilcox as “the constant coming and going of the men on shift who would be able to listen to any address for only a short period of time.” No further attempt will be made by Mr Wilcox to hold a meeting for the tramwaymen, as he is to leave the city for Christchurch this morning to begin a tour of the mining districts of the West Coast. Mr Wilcox had more success with his attempt to hold a meeting in the lunch hour outside the gates of the Hillside Workshops. About 150 men were addressed by him between 12.5 p.m. and 12.25 p.m. Mr J. Hanan was the chairman of the meeting, which was described by Mr Wilcox as being free from heckling.
