MAORI ROLLS
CLOSING DATE NOW INDEFINITE
PA NEW PLYMOUTH, May 12. The closing date for the compilation ‘ - of the Maori rolls throughout the Dominion has been extended indefinitely according to information received from the chief electoral officer - by the Maori welfare officer for Tara- " naki. Mr A. J. Davis, of Hawera. The roll was to have closed originally on March 11. Lack of co-operation and in some cases misunderstanding of their obligations by those eligible to enrol caused Mr Davis shortly before the 1 rolls were due to close to ask for an -'V-- extension of time to complete the Taranaki roll. . ; ' The decision to extend closing day ■ indefinitely, he said, was probably H strengthened by similar requests from ' other welfare officers who were coni; * fronted with the same difficulties.
