AMATEUR CYCLING
Mr A. J. Conn was in the chair at the monthly meeting of the Oamaru Amateur Cycling Club when the programme of races in the Hood Shield series was drawn up. This shield is awarded to the competitor gaining most/ points in five races held at the commencement of the road racing season. A. J. Macrae is the present holder. The/club expects to have a successful road season with some keen competition among the junior riders, who are all riding well. The club will hold the first race in the Hood Shield series to-morrow from Orana Park to Pukeuri and return. Handicaps are:—R. Kaye, C. Hood, R. Horton 4min, K. J. Fraser, G. I. Frith, S. Clark, R. Martin, W. Brehaut, A. Blaikie, K. Phillips 2min, K. Gibson, F. Gibson, B. Peace. A. J. Macrae scr. The x'ace will start at 2 p.m. •
