MANIOTOTO CRICKET The Manlototo cricket season closed with a feast of cricket during the Easter holidays, when three visiting teams played their annual matches with local clubs. The weather was unfavourable for the first two days’ play on Friday and Saturday, but an improvement permitted the final days to be played in pleasant, conditions. The results of matches played were: Fraser’s eleven 227 (Stevenson 59, Galloway 67 retired. Geary 41 retired, Fraser 18 retired, Minnihan 11 retired, and Valentine 16 not out) defeated Hyde 164 (Murray 27, Blakely 47, Milne 30 not out, and Coster 28. Bowling for Fraser’s eleven, Valentine took four for 23, Wilson one for 29 Fraser three for 12, and Geary one for 10. Fraser’s eleven 304 for four wickets, declared (Stevenson 21, Fraser 65. Geary 91, Minnihan 72 retired, Valentine 25 not out, Proctor 11 not out; McSkimming two for 37, J. W. Blakely one for 73, McAtamney one for 80) drew with Patcaroa 213 for six wickets at stumps (McSkimmnig 72 retired, J. Mathias 32, G. Mathias 20 not out; Minnihan one for 26 and Fraser two for 27). Union (Oamaru) 335 (Forbes 61. Kinder 80, R. Wedlake 36, F. Wedlake 37, J. Bee 29, Milnes 14. Maddigan 22, Rawston 14: McAtamney four for 113) drew with Patearoa 155 for eight wickets at stumps (D J. Blakely 16, J. W. Blakely 46, I. Beattie 46, W. Thurlow 13). Ranfurly 245 runs for seven wickets, declared .(Mulholland 89 retired R. Blakely 11, A. Blakely 74, Murray 16 not out, and Weir 17 not out; Proctor five for 45, Galloway one for 38), were defeated by Fraser's eleven (Smith 10, Fraser 76, Valentine 83, Stevenson 56 not out; Macassey five for 76, Mulholland one for 4G, and D. Blakelv one for 21). Taieri 219 (Milne 59 retired. Hughes 32, Murnev 23, Keogh 41 retired, and Kirk 26; D. Blakely one for 38, A. Blakely three for 36 .Lynch two for 41, J. P. Kearney three for 43) defeated Ranfurly 80 (R. Blakely 11, Mawhinney 16, Lynch 22; McLeod one for IC, Kirk two for 5, Murray two for 12, Riach two for 16. and Milne one for 11). Union 260 for eight wickets, declared (Rawston 52, Forbes 35, White 54, Currie 15, R. Wedlake 48 retired, Milnes 26. and Park 12 retired; Mulholland four for 82, Kearney one for 43, Lynch one fpr 24), defeated Ranfurly 135 (Mulholland 53 retired, J. P. Kearney 35, Quinn 12 retired; Currie four for 21). Union 237 (Rawston 28. Kinder 64. Bee 40 retired, A. Forbes 24, Maddigan 44 not out, Park 29: Nelson four for 61, Provan two for 40 and Anderson two for 25) defeated Naseb.v 153 (Knowles 15, McKenzie 39, Moore 15, Provan 32, Dagg 10; Maddipan five for 41, Forbes five for 56). Patearoa 191 for one wieket. (D. Andrew 74 not out, ,T. W. Blakely 77. and McSkimming 33 not out) defeated NorthEast Valiev 190 (Ottway 84, Walsh 29, L. Walsh 17, Howard 11 not out: R. Andrew one for 42 J. W. Blakely three for 28. D. Andrew two for 47, McSkimming one for 21). DEFENCE RIFLES The Wedderburn Defence Rifle Club opened their season bv holding a practice shoot on their range at Wedderburn on Saturday. There was a good attendance, and the shoot resulted as follows: L. L. Smith 91—0—91, W. Duncan 83—4—87. and D. Duncan, jun., 86—0—86.
