GOLF INTERRUPTED

ARMED WARFARE IN FAIRWAY PA AUCKLAND, Apl. 18. Life in Rangoon is full of surprises. Mr R. B. Monteath, who arrived by the Monowai to-day, had to stop a game of golf on the Rangoon course because one political party was busy trenchmortaring another party in the fairway. Mr Monteath, who worked for a shipping company’s agents in Rangoon, said that because of political “ campaigning ” he had not left the city area for a year. “ One party cut off the water in Rangoon just before I left," said Mr Monteath. “ Once before the Karens got elephants to work shifting pipes, and the water was off for a few days.” Europeans were not singled out for persecution by the natives, but they did not move far away from the towns because of the restless state of the country.
