FAVOURABLE WEATHER
EASTER HOLIDAY-MAKERS MANY ATTRACTIONS OFFERED The weather remained dry and favourable for Easter holiday-makers in the city yesterday in spite of the forecast to the contrary. There was still a keen nip in the air, but the sun shone brightly for several hours and there was almost a complete absence of wind, with the result that few people stayed indoors.
There was a variety of sporting and other attractions offering, and in moot cases these drew large crowds. Among the many sporting events were the finals of the Otago provincial golf championships at Balmacewen, the Otago tennis championships at Logan Park, the Roman Catholic Rugby football tournament at Carisbrook. and the Easter bowling tournament. The closing of the yacht season on the harbour was celebrated by inter-club trophy matches held off Macandrew Bay. The observation tours around the Peninsula, to Larnach’s Castle, and to Whare Flat were again popular, 12 buses being engaged. The missionary ship John Williams VI provided yet another attraction. Further afield Karitane, Warrington and Brighton and other seaside resorts attracted their quota of visitors. 4 Many people have still a holiday to-day but for others Easter is over and they will resume work this morning. There was a good volume of traffic on the roads last night as people returned to the city. Trains from the north, south and Central Otago also brought large numbers back to the city. To-day, however, will be the }3usy day for transport services.
