CHUKOR FOR AUCKLAND

ATTEMPT TO CAPTURE BIRDS ALIVE Special to the Daily Times ALEXANDRA. Apl. 18.

An attempt to capture 100 live chukor for release in the Auckland district is being made by Mr J. Dobson, chief ranger, and Mr Naylor, a member of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, who are at present spending a fortnight in Alexandra. Rabbit traps, which will be covered with rubber to protect the birds from injury, and nets will be used for trapping, and probable roosting places and feeding grounds have been located. It is expected that with the help of local sportsmen the number of birds required will be caught. The Auckland Acclimatisation Societv regards the experiment as worth while, and it is reported that the Coromandel and Karangahake Gorge arear would be suitable for the bird.
