Good Trial by Fine Night at Riccarton

The weather was fine for the work at Riccarton this morning, and the outside of the course proper was slowi as the result of heavy rain earlier in the week. It was used for practically all the galloping. Peridot covered a mile in lmin 45sec, with Braemorn as a mate for seven furlongs, the last half taking 53sec. Kirkella broke away in front of Revolte, but they were soon together. The first halfmile was done in 51 l-ssec, and the full journey in lmin 45sec. Tuatea made up ground to finish with Balkis in similar time, but Balkis was not ridden out. The first half took 51sec. Langham was beaten off. Liebestraum finished well to beat Royal Tan and Dark Arrow in lmin 45 2-ssec, with an even pace all the way. Trident and Robin Redbreast took lmin 48 3-ssec, finishing clear of Atomic Star, who could have done better.

Magical’s lmin 30 l-ssec was the best for seven furlongs. Thornbridge registered lmin 31 4-ssec. Profane, Excellent Flight and Beau Soir were on terms in lmin 32 l-ssec.

Watchword and Zorro were well matched* over six furlongs in lmin 15 l-ssec, the last half mile in 49 4-ssec. Fine Night took lmin 15 4-ssec, coming home in 50sec. Citril gave a start to Faithful Pal and Newspaper, and beat them by six lengths in lmin 17 l-ssec. Citril went well. Lorna Leigh took lmin 18see, Julius Ceesar lmin 19 3-ssec, and Tenor Royal and Bar Garette lmin 20sec. Prince Defaulter stayed on well to be clear of Beaumaris, with Trinidad, Blue Print, Boost and Redweed following at intervals. The time was lmin 3 l-ssec, the last half in 49 4-ssec. Swayup and Kamet equalled that timA but took 50 l-ssec to come home. Flying Orders coming home in similar time. Robinfaye went well while beating Caronia in lmin ssec. False Step went easily in lmin 5 4-ssec.

Cipher dashed over half a mile in 49 3- Open Range took 51 l-ssec, staying on to be on terms with Erinborough, who was not doing his best. Oberon, Rising Tide and Hobo finished on terms in 52 2-ssec, while Super Snipe went easily in 52 3-ssec, Supreme Command following in 53 l-ssec. Trench Fray and Fantasy ran half a mile on the No. 6 grass track in 49 4-

Martial Note went better than Big Top over four hurdles.
