CHURCHES OF CHRIST

DOMINION CONFERENCE OPENED IN GISBORNE PA GISBORNE, Apl. 15.

Delegates from all parts of the Dominion attending the conference of the Associated Churches of Christ of New Zealand in Gisborne were given a civic welcome by the Mayor, Mr N. 11. Bull. Mr E. P- Adermnn, MP for New Plymouth, conducted the devotional service and the Very Rev. Dr Hutchinson Cockburn gave the assembly a report on the Amsterdam conference of World Churches. Mr R. G. Dick (Wellington) is presiding over the conference, which will continue till Monday. “We cannot be blinded to the fact that there are many materialistic forces spreading dark shadows over millions of people.” said Mr Aderman “The principle of freedom from fear enunciated in the Atlantic Charter has not so far been established. As fear is widespread we must substitute for this fear the precents of life that give faith, courage and confidence. Channels leading to the spread of materialistic ideologies are a feature of the political hanpenings and parts of educational facilities, partcularly in the higher section of propagandising. Another channel is the excessive amount of immoral literature available.”
